I spoiled myself by watching most of the cutscenes because I heard the game is rubbish but now I'm going to buy FF13 purely for their story now.
Though I would highly recommend playing the game over watching the anime. The anime, er, doesn't really do it justice in my opinion (and the games have been translated beyond the anime, kehehehehe) but it's up to you of course. Many have enjoyed the anime as well!
Watch out for the awesome Higurashi-related plot twist in the second arc too!
