On MyAnimeList, I finally got to rate something unwatchable.

What is it? The Earthian anime.

WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL MANGA. The anime, an entirely different story, like the polar opposite.

This is good to know. I saw the anime first and have been contemplating getting the manga (...for several years. >__>).

The animation in the early episodes paaained me. To the point of laughing uncontrollably, so it wasn't a total loss.

Really? I liked the anime. Maybe I should check out the manga and see what I'm missing. Mm. Chihaya. <3

The art is so beautiful and just wonderful.. the anime veered in a different direction then the manga.. not to mention the manga was four volumes... and alot got covered.

It's a very short OVA, isn't it? Makes me glad I never tried to hunt it down. I love the manga.

they really should make full series anime based on it, I think it would be a refreshing change from the horridness that is the OVA

I would love to see a full anime made by a good company, but until then, I'm definitely going for a re-read of the manga when I get home. It's one of the only ones I consistently pick up since I love it so much.

Like Saiyuki? (Because yes, the anime fails.)

Oh, no.. Saiyuki was watchable. I mean it wasn't the greatest (certainly no manga) but the Earthian anime.. is just really really really bad. Like a throw up in your mouth sort of bad.

Admittedly my opinion of the Saiyuki anime gets worse and worse the more I read the manga, but I didn't seem to mind watching it back when I first saw it.

What is it about the Earthian anime that makes it so bad?

The art style does nothing for Kouga Yun's art style, and the entire anime veered directly from the manga, but not in a good way. All of the beauty of the series was sort of thrown in the trash. You really have to read the manga first and then watch the anime.. I'm sure to everyone else it could be watchable, but in my mind Earthian always hinted of shades of pastels, like how clouds should look as the sun touches them in various points of the day, while the very dark and stark tones in the anime just doesn't do justice to the story.

I would say that your first sentence applies to Saiyuki too, although perhaps not all of the beauty of the series is thrown in the trash. Just most of it. But mangas spoil us, don't they? I'm beginning to think that there must be some unwritten rule that the manga of any given series is exponentially better than the anime.

Oh not true! You know I actually loved the anime for Card Captor Sakura much more then the manga (because every card was captured in the series, unlike the manga where it was usually skipped) but I guess that's the exception rather then the rule.

Oh Minakura's art is so wonderful and then the anime trashes it!

I've never actually read the Card Captor Sakura manga, but I do remember liking the anime.

Yes, her artwork is wonderful. I haven't seen any other manga artists that compare with it, although admittedly I don't get around a lot. At least the burial OVAs are somewhat decent, though.

Also, just wanted to say that you managed to pick the text that was absolutely right for that icon (I know that I've said it before but I'll say it again)

Thank you. It's funny, I was just telling a couple friends the other day that it probably would've been more appropriate for Ukoku. I didn't even know about him back when I made it though.

It's been so long since I've read or seen that that I've completely forgotten what it was about TAT;. However, I did remember liking the manga waaay more.

I agree with you there! I watched the anime, and I just wanted to swear at the screen. Seriously, what the?

Hmmm, I might give the manga a try - is it really good? The anime really put me off.

Oh the manga is everything that is beautiful and awesome! <3
