Zoicite☆For all I carry are murdered
http://i13.tinypic.com/2yxok1j.jpg - This is exactly why I'll only RP with shuufish seriously. Because there are alot of RPers out there that if I put one foot in the water, I'd get a net of psychopathic fangirls. Do I want that? Not really (and the artist of that picture is wonderful.. I've always loved her pictures)

http://img467.imageshack.us/img467/6955/tougasaifr2.jpg - Touga/Saionji for the win.

http://i1.tinypic.com/2n1urh5.jpg - Agreed. and ever notice that Basch has matching rainbow coloured potholder.. ahahaha

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/1407/ukeboydp9.png - It's the purple eyes, I tell you.

http://i11.tinypic.com/2rm2kh0.png - Not with Kadaj mind you, but with certain characters.. I actually -liked- characters until I saw people RP them, and then I was like "oh gods no" and then I just.. well you know. (like Nooj.. oh my GOD I CANNOT STAND NOOJ ANYMORE). Lucky me I'm out of the RPing fandom, amirite?

http://i11.tinypic.com/2zg7re8.png - And using a picture of Rukia to illustrate this point. KICKS SO MUCH FUCKING ASS.

For the month of January those were the ones that I was like "HELL YEAH" to. Now it's time for bed because I'm tired and I have to be up early.

RE: boring female characters

I've been battling this for a long time. So many BAD female characters have trained me to automatically judge ALL female characters too harshly. It really isn't fair and I recognize I do it. The Boss in MGS3 *finally* helped me to be able to GET OVER IT.

seriously though, the plethora of just SHITTY female characters in comparison to the large number of cool, interesting male characters that are always more important to the show have made me have serious insecurities about my gender. And I'm not just talking anime, I'm talking EVERYTHING.

Women are painted usually in a stereotypical light I think and I agree with you.

The Balthier pic has SLAIN ME DEAD. I love it. LOVE IT. And word to Basch's potholder. :D

I'm kind of with jianna on the female characters thing...I cherish the ones that are great (Miang FTW! And Franziska, and Ashe, and Quistis, and Shippuden-era Sakura...), but there are so many fewer of them compared to the ass-kicking, screen-time stealing main male characters. Oddly enough it's starting to even out in games, but in most anime series, the guy still steals the show, and the female's relegated to being either The Wallflower or The Psycho Bitch, depending on whether there's supposed to be romantic potential or not. Yuck.

I don't know if it's a reflection of the people who create the series or the market they're trying to sell to, but it's a crying shame; that said, I'm not about to start liking or identifying with crappy female characters just because we share a gender identity. Seriously, God forbid they write a woman who's more rational than emotional. You'd think the world would END. Obviously I think it's idiotic to bash them just because they're female, but probability-wise, the odds are against them... :(

Oh you know, I agree totally with the both of you.. there are far too few kickass females. Of course when I posted that up, I was remembering there are some girls who think that unless it has a penis, it's probably useless. There are some really great ass-kicking females out there, and you pointed some of them out. I appreciate women mostly that don't need the men to validate themselves, I'll always be that way.. perhaps it's because I am a lesbian and such women make it easier for me to fangirl I guess, on a personal level. But I have always realized that my standards are different then others.

Oh man... I so agree with those. Especially the Touga/Saiojni one. XD

That Balthier one made me giggle far too much XDDDDD

I don't spend far too much time wondering about those, really

It's definitely endearing.. Basch needs love too..*and he needs someone to dress him*

I agree with both RP ones! (and the second one applies to writing too....ugh, so many innocent characters killed in the making of certain fics.)

And it really is rare for find a female character that's likeable and strong. Still, at least they're out there!

While I understand the sentiments expressed in the two RP ones, I've always felt that the first one's more a product of miscommunication and assumption than actual craziness. I've noticed that in most fandom RP, there seems to be an unspoken assumption that everyone is in it for the smut. I've also observed that many RPers seem to be socially awkward outside their characters, myself included, but I'm not sure that just a common trait or what.

But I digress.

I just feel that a little honesty by both parties could prevent conflicts like that from escalating to the point expressed in Secret #1. I know that sometimes it can be hard to say "look, when you say that, it weirds me out and I don't want to play with you anymore", especially after a long, stressful day when all you want to do is unwind, but generally, tackling the issue head-on and being up front about what you like and don't like keeps stuff like that at bay or at least, it seems that way to me. RP's a game like football or any other team sport, clear rules need to be outlined or someone could get hurt.

Not that I don't agree that there's a large population among RP fandom that takes the whole thing entirely too seriously. I know I do when I'm feeling prickly, stressed, and not in the mood to have my fun ruined by ridiculous wank. XD;)

As for the second RP one, I've experienced that with pairings more than individual characters. Shitty characterization can ruin a lot of things for me, mostly enjoyment of the game itself and screw up how I play a character if said characterization are fanony or OOC, but never the source material itself though great portrayals can make me love a character, too. Other end of the spectrum there. :D;

I guess it all depends on the crowd you play with. I lucked out and landed in a great group of non-psychotic people that are friends outside of RP, too. I've branched out enough to see the types of fangirls people think of when they hear "psycho RPer" but yeah, overall I don't think they're as bad as they're made out to be.

/end ramble

That postcard with Rukia reminds me that I have a metric assload of Bleach manga that I should be reading. I keep hearing wonderful things about the females in that.

And I always thought Balthier was flamingly bisexual.

He certainly looks that way, specially in the FMV

I just don't think Balthier would deny himself the best of both worlds. He is the leading man, after all. ;D

Of course, and we could agree what the leading man should or should not do. But he just looks as a smart guy with lots of time and it looks as his preference and all that is to look for both worlds. So yeah, the leading man never ...

Oh you know, this only proves that I am so wonderfully happy that you are on my friends list. Not very many guys at all would say something like that. But it denotes how very tolerant and accepting you are and that's just simply awesome. (open minded too)

Thanks, but you're more awesome than me.

Besides, How could I pass on such delightful friendship?

He does. He does.. bisexual because come on.. FRAN! *hot bunny girls for the win*

But the rainbow rings and friendship bracelets.. yes, has me convinced he probably bats for both teams

Yeah, Fran was, yeah...

I thought he was the kinda guy that most likely be wanting to have fun on both sides of the fence. And it can fits him and his personality

I totally agree with your point of characters playing characters differently from real life and showing us a different side while playing (it's hard to explain, so stick with me)

Definitely, when a group is a bunch of friends, they won;t be afraid to play certain ways. I did and I spent the entire time being seduced by other character, and it was fun to follow his way of play.

RPers is to have fun, and while many of the players i've played with ruin everything, when yu find the right crowd, is so hilarious it takes over completely your life

Well when I talk about psychotic, I usually mean that well this person that played Nooj, she was completely wrapped up in Nooj.. and well it just consumed her. She I think -thought- she was Nooj. It was scary, and because of that intensity with playing, with the fact that she tried to model herself after a fictional character, it made me realize that some people take the RPing entirely too seriously.

Well, that is another issue.
I have played as guys and also as girls (which was pretty funny, and I was the only one that took the campaign seriously) And is fine to act as a character you like in a game. But, after the session was over, I was not that character until the next time we play. That's how it is. You're right.

Luckilly I've never had the 'your character should molest mine' problem. Maybe because I don't RP with many people anymore either.

I'll tell you what though, if there ever are any unwanted advances my characters would run away screaming. I won't play my own characters OOC for anyone, even if they end up thinking that I don't like them because my character doesn't. Which is a sad situation, but pretty childish if you ask me.
