I have nine cats.. so yes, this is relevant to me. Please read through it if you own a dog or a cat. There was recalled some pet foods (mostly wet but there may be something else up there.. and check what you feed your pet against the list so that you can either take them to a vet or something.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/17/petfood.recall.ap/index.html

My cats are spoiled and get fancy feast. But still I get worried for all the little animals out there.

Thanks for the heads up. Luckily, none of my petfood is listed there.

I remember seeing this and having a panic attack (we have five kitties, all of them spoiled and getting dry food and wet food). Thank goodness none of the ones we buy (Meow Mix and Purina) were on there! (Thank goodness our spoiled kitties hate Iams...)

Oh yes, my cats hate Iams too. >.> We tried to feed it to them once, and they rejected it.

Apparently it's only one particular flavor of all those listed brands that's been causing problems, at least according to the Snopes report. However, I'm still very glad that all my kitties are on a special prescription food (one of them has allergies up the wazoo, poor baby, and there's no practical way to feed him one type of food and all the others something else).

It's not the flavor that's at issue, it's the production dates. The Menu Foods website (also linked in the Snopes report, I believe) has the specific dates for each brand and flavor that should be thrown out.

I've been testing new wet food for my kitten, and sure enough, the last three packets I bought were Menu Foods (the Nutro brand). >_< Fortunately the production dates of the packets I have weren't on the list, but I'm still debating whether I should throw the rest out anyway.

I would.. if only to be safe.. because better safe then sorry. >.>

I work for Nutro and I'll let you know that you don't have to throw them out. Even if they aren't the dates that are being recalled, Nutro is guaranteed regardless, so you can just take them back to the store. No need to throw out your money!

I had a near heart-attack yesterday when my dad informed me: he had to return all the IAMS food for his and my mother's cat. I'm just thankful Purina wasn't on the list. I rarely feed my two canned food to begin but still... it's scary.

Heh, I have seven cats and they get Fancy Feast as well (and they're all getting fat because they always have some dry food around too >_>). I'm just glad Fancy Feast is safe; returning 50+ cans of cat food and constantly worrying about it would not have been fun at all.

Purina, Iams, Eukanuba and most of the other commercial brands aren't really superb diets for your animals. Most of these brands are manufactured in the same plants, actually.

I hate it when this shit happens. It freaks me out. My dog has severe allergies... vet wanted to put her on a Hills diet (hills makes Iams, Eukanuba and Science Diet)... I didn't let my parents do it and put her on Wellness brand instead. They use human grade instead of feed grade ingredients. She hasn't had a problem since. Another really excellent brand that is just as available, if not more, than Wellness is Natura brand. My cat kept getting urinary tract infections and hasn't since being on Innova.

♥ Sorry to rant. =\

Sadly my cat died about a week ago. But I don't think it had anything to do with her food, she was just really old. Still hope they get this fixed soon, it's shocking that it's on premium foods!

Luckily my kitties get fancy feast too. But still, yeesh. Scary. .__.

Thank you for the link. Ours mostly eats Fancy Feast, but we had two cans of Priority, which was on the list. ;_; Not the flavor they mentioned, but I'd rather not risk it.

Wow, thanks for posting this. Thankfully, the food my brother's cat eats isn't on there, but it's still good to know!

Wow, I'm sure glad I don't feed my cats any of those brands.

Some wheat producer had some bad shipments and they supply all those companies. They might be able to place it to a few shipments, so some of the products might come back. Let me tell you, it was quite a stressful weekend working as a sales rep for Nutro (which you can return, even if it wasn't one of the dates recalled, if you want to be careful).
Dry food wasn't affected, and it's healthier for pets anyway ;)

Shoot, my mom just got my cat some new kind of pet food, so I don't remember the name of it. :/ I doubt it's on the list, though. I'll hafta call her and make sure, though. Thanks, Hyuuu~ ;o;
